To prepare this easy homemade cranberry sauce recipe start by gathering all your ingredients. Next, take your apples and dice into large cubes roughly about 1/3 -1/2 inch in size. Once your apples are cubed, place them into a dish. Next add in your fresh cranberries followed by your brown sugar and orange juice.
With all your ingredients in your dish, mix everything together making sure to coat everything in the grown sugar and orange juice. Once everything has been mix together, place it into the smoker and begin cooking for 60 minutes at 300F allowing that smoky flavour to absorb slightly into the fruit. If you don't have a smoker you can place the mixture into your oven and follow the same steps.
After about 25 minutes of cooking, remove the cranberry mixture from the grill and give it a mix. It's best to stir this sauce as it's cooking around the 25 minute mark as well as the 50 minute mark. With it mixed, place it back into the grill to continue cooking.
After about 60 minutes of cooking the cranberry sauce should be done.. You will notice that the apples have softened up as well as the flavour and color of the cranberries have started absorbing into the apples. At this point remove it from the heat and let it cool down at room tempreture. You will notice as it cools the color with become more vibrant red and the sauce will thicken to the perfect consistency!..
