To get started with this recipe make sure you have all your ingredients on hand so that that you can make everything at the same time. Once you have your ingredients, apply your baking powder to the outside of the wings.. This is going to help make the wings more crispy as well as hold the sauce that we will using later on to the wing a bit more. Once the Baking power is on the wings continue to season the wings with your favourite BBQ Rub. I recommend keeping the rub a little bit more neutral so that the cherry cola bbq sauce shines a bit more.
With the wings a prepared, place them onto the pellet grill or grill of your choice using the indirect cooking method and start cooking them at 375F. Cooking wings above 325 is always recommended to help achieve a crispier skin. Once on the grill begin cooking until they reach an internal tempreture between 185f-195f.
While the wings are cooking it's the perfect time to begin to making the delicious Cherry Cola BBQ Sauce! This sauce is sticky, sweet, and incredibly delicious! To make it, mix together all your ingredients into a pot and then turn on the heat to a medium low. Bring the sauce up to a low simmer and continue to cook the sauce down about half way so that it thickens up a bit. For us it usually takes around 20 minutes. Once the sauce has thickend to your liking, remove it from the heat so that it can cool down to room tempreture. PRO TIP: When making sauces, remember that the sauce with continue to thicken up as it cools.
Once the wings have reached an internal tempreture between 185F-195F, place them into a large bowl and add your cherry cola bbq sauce to the wings and give them a toss/mix making sure that the wings are fully coated. When they are coated, place them back on the grill for a few minutes to allow the sauce to set up. Once the sauce is firmed up, remove them from the grill and serve. OPTIONAL: If you'd like to toss them a second time before serving, go for it.
